Michael Craig-Martin, Eye of the storm, 2002

At first look this is a mish mash of random object, which have just been thrown into chaos not regarding any fact of size, scale or the relation to each and every other object, i believe that this fact is one element which creates such a vibrant piece that composes of everyday objects to other objects which aren't in every house hold for example not everyone has a metronome and who in the 20th century listens to cassette's? With the handcuffs hiding behind the bucket i believe this is trying to place it as an everyday object in the sense of being arrested so often you have your own collection, or as a personal fetish bringing more personality to the piece but the possibility of hiding the dark secret in hiding it in such a painting what a dark horse. This does remind me of summer thought from the sandal, fan , this and the vivid use of colour which really does bring the piece in to a contemporary/ pop art feel to it i am glad that it is done in acrylic as this would bring such a clear bright medium to the piece and as such a large canvas it would be truly be over whelming almost making you feel like a giant in a acid world, with one hell of a messy room and has allot of hobbies, i truly ardor the scale of the objects as they resemble film props in some sort of Thumbilina movie, you just what to play with everything there, but the relation to other objects for example the light bulb is so much bigger than the bottle and the safety pin is extremal large compared to the original size of it, so what could it be used for example unless he painted a giant nappy for his next piece it wont have much use. This is called eye of the storm which makes me think has there been a storm in his house recently ? Or is it a collaboration of his life thought his belongings which to be hoist i find fascinating, an insight to the artists life other than some past controversial pieces which have been all about the statement rather than the personal applications.This piece one other and an installation layout in the gallery is based on the idea that for a moment they are held still for a few moments in the canvas then released into the gallery space swirling around as objects converted to life which i believe is a beautiful use of gallery space instead of a singular canvas on the wall for everyone to crowd around, and for it to be released into life of course not physically but appearing as it is 'jumping off the wall'. This is communicating to reality by the objects as everyday use and unreal abstraction to the natural world with the bright colours and mix of objects, This pieces to me is describing a world which you would prefer to be, a world which can make drug abuse and crime beautiful i simply want to bask myself in its beauty and want and abnormally large light bulb in my life, this as my first review i think is a very high note as i like it and it has such a meaning and practicality which just makes you fall in love with it, i believe i could easily fill my life with pictures of inanimate object not to be used but yet inviting you to use them extensively.
